Frequently Asked Questions
-
Many people feel nervous before their first appointment. Therapy is a collaborative process, and there is no expectation that you know what to say or do. My goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment where you can feel comfortable exploring your concerns at your own pace.
-
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, review your history, identify your goals, and begin developing a plan for treatment. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable discussing.
-
Therapy sessions can focus on current challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties, work concerns, life transitions, or family conflict. Sessions may also explore past experiences that continue to affect your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors today. Together, we will identify patterns, process difficult emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and work toward meaningful goals.
-
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, circumstances, and the concerns you are addressing. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific issue, while others prefer longer-term support for ongoing personal growth and healing.
-
Frequency depends on your goals and clinical needs. Weekly sessions are often recommended at the beginning of treatment, with frequency adjusted as progress is made.
-
Standard therapy sessions are typically 50–55 minutes in length. Extended sessions may be available when clinically appropriate and scheduled in advance.
-
Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. This policy helps protect the time reserved specifically for you and allows other clients the opportunity to schedule appointments.
-
Telehealth services are provided through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. Clients must be located in a state where the therapist is licensed to practice at the time of the session.
-
Missed appointments ("no-shows") may be charged the full session fee. If an emergency occurs, please contact the office as soon as possible so we can discuss the circumstances.
-
Yes. Therapy sessions are confidential except in situations required by law or ethical standards, such as:
Risk of serious harm to yourself or others
Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult
Court orders or other legal requirements
-
You can contact the office by phone, email, or through the website's contact form. I will be happy to answer questions, discuss availability, and help determine whether my services are a good fit for your needs.
-
As a private-pay practice, I am not contracted with insurance companies. This allows treatment to be guided by your needs rather than insurance requirements, diagnoses, or limitations on care.
